Find Jobs in new markets – Explore new destinations

Being a Pakistani I am much worried about present situation of my country. In Pakistan, law and order situation is getting worse day by day and people are losing jobs. In this frustrating period we need to think positive and do something good for our nation.

The best approach is sending human resource to outside world in emerging markets to earn good living and run their homes in decent and stable way. With Dubai and Saudi Arabia being closest destination, the tough competition and dropping salaries are making difficult for us to penetrate and secure reasonable jobs. Although we need to explore these markets regularly as still there is plenty of margin to settle, we need to explore new markets too which are growing rapidly.

Following are few exciting destinations that can be explored immediately to secure a prosperous future. There are whole lot jobs from construction to IT and engineering that need to be explored and secured. A bold decision is needed to visit and search for the jobs in these markets. Policies and feasibilities can be made after visiting their official visa/immigration sites.

In my opinion, following destinations will be on world’s radar as the most important destinations for quality jobs.

Career Opportunities in UAE – Way forward

UAE is really a land of opportunities. Whether you are a businessman, student, labor, professional or otherwise, UAE provide extra ordinary opportunities to shine with full concentration on your domain. In recent years Dubai emerged as a key destination constantly visible in business radar of the world. The city is transforming itself into a technically equipped with most of the impressive automates services in the world. On the other hand Abu Dhabi is the most stable city with bustling businesses and career opportunities.  In this write up I will sum up few points for those who are seriously thinking of landing in UAE for career opportunities.

Preparedness

Most of the individuals landing in UAE lack preparedness in terms of qualification, skills and certifications needed to get going in the job market. There are key areas which are constantly in demand of human resource which need to be focused to get jobs on time. A large number of individuals come on tourist visa for minimum 30 days which is really insufficient, especially if one has no prior interview setup or meetings arranged. Breaking ice in UAE market is a tough task. Secondly the prerequisites are so much that one cannot imagine fulfilling all those in 30 days.

Focus

People who land in UAE for job opportunities don’t focus on certain job titles, instead they start sending and dropping CVs for every job opportunity they read. One must evaluate skills needed for the selected opportunity and change tone of a CV to exactly match the requirement. If a person is over qualified for the position interested in, he/she should draft a summarized version of CV not emphasizing on advanced skills. If you are under qualified then never exaggerate your skills, instead emphasize that you will cover short comings in lesser period of time.

Personal contacts

Before planning your visit for job hunting, sort a list of contacts you already have in UAE in terms of friends, relatives and colleagues who can help you or guide you in the market. Furthermore, if you have residence arrangement with your friends or relatives then you will be able to concentrate more on your job hunting instead of wasting time in finding living place. When you plan to visit ask your relative or friend to arrange a mobile phone + sim for you so that you can use the number in your CV. The mobile-sim can be easily purchased when you land in UAE. This is the first thing you should do before initiating your hunting. Carrying your personal mobile and changing sim is recommended; otherwise you will have to spend a good chunk of your money to buy one from the market.

Applying for the job

When you start applying, first of all create multiple physical copies of your CV especially couple of other versions for different job titles you can handle. Never mess up your application with multiple job titles. The best way to start searching is going through newspapers and classified sections. Furthermore, there are number of websites announcing job openings. You may also contact recruiting firms but be sure as there are quacks around to grab money the moment you walk in to their office. Any recruitment firm claiming even minimal amount in first meeting should be avoided as most of them are fake and simply misguide individuals.

Map of UAE

Wikimapia.org is a best source of getting clear view of UAE. You may browse all major cities, landmarks and locations before landing in UAE. Most of the visitors land in Dubai as the city has more businesses and job opportunities than other states. Google earth can also be checked for proper guidance. Secondly you should visit RTA website which has a feature namely “journey planner” which may be visited to see maps and routes of buses. This is good idea to be prepared regarding roads, markets and business hubs.

Be presentable

Talk nice and dress nice even if you are applying for an ordinary job. Cleanliness is a must and selection of proper dress for relevant job title can also help in attracting your employer. Whenever you are called for an interview, do visit the company’s website and go through the introduction and other information available on the net about the company. During interviews establish proper eye contact and communicate confidently with interviewer(s). Be loud, clear and attentive. Always take your CV in proper file in multiple copies. The copies should be the same you sent via email or courier.  Distribute these copies preferably in plastic file to all interviewers so that they can write their points on it. Convince your interviewer that you are keen to join and work hard for cementing place in the organization. Never plead or degrade yourself, instead communicate with authority and confidence.

Documents Required – Important step never omit to avoid failure

If you have decided to go to UAE you should have proper educational documents properly endorsed from UAE Consulate/Embassy near to you. You can visit Bukhari Travels with your documents to understand current requirements as they provide verification services for UAE Consulate in Pakistan.  To be precise, in Pakistan, educational documents need to be attested from HEC – Higher Education Commission prior to submission to consulate for which service of FedEx courier is required.  After this phase make an Arabic translation of your final educational document. Verified documents along with translation need to be endorsed from Ministry of Foreign Affairs which is a one day process if you reach there on time. In Pakistan we get used to agents who ensure timely completion of formalities with some additional cost if you are in a hurry but make sure you leave documents with proper agent (Get their mobile number and visit their office to be sure you can catch him later). Carrying attested documents with you will help you process your employment visa on time otherwise this may take weeks and may irk your potential employer. This is one of the key reasons candidates fails to materialize job offers due to lack of document preparedness.

All above points are necessary to increase your chances of getting better opportunity in UAE. Job seekers should also visit other cities like Sharjah, Ras Al Khaima and Fujaira to increase chances of getting jobs quickly.

Understanding Leadership

There are so many definitions and qualities of a successful leader but only few are gathered below. Every one of us is following different leader whom we select due to variety of reasons. At times we follow certain leader because of little or no choice. At least all of us believe that a good leader is necessary to keep ones motivation and strength intact.

Definition of Leader

A leader is “a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal”.

What makes a TRUE Leader

In my opinion a True Leader should satisfy all of the following points

 Six Qualities of Leaders

1.      A True Leader always has a clean and spotless background

2.      A True Leader is always respected by his/her opponents

3.      A True Leader never lies in front of or behind his followers

4.      A True Leader always takes his followers into confidence

5.      A True Leader always has clear and logical explanations of his acts and plans

6.      A True Leader is never criticized for his moves by his followers

7.      A True Leader never keeps lifestyle above his followers

8.      A True Leader never ignites negative feelings of his followers and never involves them in to unworthy conflicts

9.      A True Leader always selects clean and flawless team and companions.

10.  A True Leader never compromise on followers interest

11.  A True Leader never bow in front of others and always ready to accept positive suggestions

12.  A True Leader always lift the moral of his team and followers

13.  A True Leader always take problems with horns and set example for his team and followers

14.  A True Leader always live in hearts and minds of his followers even after his/her death

15.  A True Leader always remembered in the history with good name

According to American Airlines Executive Chairman Ed Brennan, six qualities separate the leaders from the followers:

  1. Integrity: This is a deal breaker if you don’t have it completely. When it comes to governance, Brennan said, he “never did anything or asked anyone to do anything he couldn’t go home and explain to his kids.”
  2. A deep understanding of the business: “You can’t fake it. People will know.” While you don’t need to know every detail, you do have to have a good grasp of the business.
  3. Consistency: While keeping things fresh is important, leaders cannot change direction frequently. They will lose people’s confidence.
  4. Willingness to admit a mistake: Everyone makes mistakes. If you’re not making any, you’re not doing your job right. But Brennan emphasized the importance of admitting your missteps — otherwise people will not respect you.
  5. The ability to listen: Good leaders must be willing to handle opinions contrary to their own and absorb as much as they can.
  6. Decisiveness: While you should listen to others’ opinions, the final decision is yours to make. Brennan said when CEOs fail, very often it’s because they are not decisive. Average tenure for a CEO has fallen from more than a decade to three years because people lose confidence in leaders whose indecision results in failure.

 What makes great Leaders

According to Hilly Billy these qualities are evident in historical leaders such as Lincoln, Wilberforce, Gandhi, Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Theresa, and others.

  1. Successful people never let circumstances dictate the outcome. Successful people learn to respond to their circumstances. They know that they cannot always control what happens, but they can control how they respond to what happens.
  2. Successful people are persistent. They have their big idea and they stick with it.
  3. Successful people take a realistic inventory of their talents and abilities. They recognize their personal strengths and weaknesses. They play to their own strengths and overcome their weaknesses by capitalizing on the strengths of others.
  4. Successful people are resilient. They recognize that failure is an opportunity to learn and grow. They do not fear failure they embrace it. They see every failure as a step closer to the realization of their dreams. They become masters of overcoming obstacles and staying focused on a positive outcome.
  5. Successful people have passion. They are faithful and they pursue their dreams with a constant vigor and they love deeply. They do not fear rejection and loss as much as they fear living without a purpose.

Golden Opportunities for Pakistanis in Human Capital Export

We in Pakistan are more tuned to popular TV channels and routine newspapers to get the better idea of the world. Unfortunately internet is not being used for information gathering; rather it is being used for entertainment only.

The biggest problem of our majority of population is their lack of knowledge about ways of changing lives and raising standard of living. Having mobile phone, grabbing credit card and buying an automobile is not about raising life standard, it actually bring more trouble if your income is not rising.

Education is the key factor behind raising income and eventually raising standard of living. Whether academic or technical, both types of education are beneficial in grabbing secure jobs not only in Pakistan but abroad as well.

Pakistan must realize that it has one of the largest and most talented human capitals in the world. We have rich resources in terms of educated and technically sound individuals. Unfortunately due to recent political and regional events, Pakistanis are very disappointed and uncertain about their future. Although Pakistan is in grey area to number of reasons, the human capital growth can bring laurels to Pakistan if we concentrate on global human capital requirements.

As we all know that remittances plays an important role in Pakistan’s economy, we can boost our human capital export to raise remittances level to record high with constant upward trend. After visiting websites of government entities involved in exporting human capital revealed that not many activities are going on. The ground reality is that we have not even realized our potential and not aware of the opportunities lying and upcoming for prepared nations.

The most important opportunities are wide open in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and EU countries where there is steady growth and they are welcoming skilled workforce to keep the pace of their growth. On the websites of these countries there are lists of immediate skill shortage which can be focused to prepare our workforce as per their specifications and demands.

We are not too far away from embarrassing situation in terms of financial crisis. If we don’t act now, our country will be in doldrums. In early seventies, our human capital export to Middle East and gulf brought revolution in Pakistan. The same can be repeated by exporting human capital to countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and EU Countries. Gartner’s recent survey revealed that a very large number of IT professionals, alone are needed worldwide to fill IT skill shortage. Furthermore, even butchers, hairdressers, auto mechanics, welders, construction workers and alike are listed in immediate skill shortage of major countries. These countries are welcoming immigrants and also issuing work permits.

I am very confident that if our nation is prepared according to worldwide demand they can grab most of these opportunities which will benefit Pakistan the most. What we need to do is to mobilize our existing government organizations like Overseas Employment Corporation, NAVTEC, Ministry of Labor and alike to formulate a focused plan to prepare our workforce strictly according to international skills demand. Government’s effort to prepare quality work force will also discourage illegal immigrations as there are lot of legal opportunities available which may help all those who wish to leave Pakistan for good. This will help spread softer image of our country.

In short, Human Capital Export is the best and shortest possible way of making Pakistan a successful and financially sound nation.
